Besides the shopping which goes without saying, the Columbia Mall is very kid friendly. There is a great kids area near JC Penney (lower level). It has slides and tunnels. It is clean and great for kids between 1-6 years old. There is a great carousel on the upper level near Maggie Moos and Sears. For a small fee, the kids are thrilled. The food options are no so good so sometimes I bring lunch and eat it in the food court. There is also a great pet store with sweet pups and birds for the kids to look at. Another WONDERFUL thing is that on Thursday mornings 10am-11am, Ms. Julie comes for the children. She does story time, music or brings a clown or magician. It is wonderful and the kids love it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

The Columbia Mall gets way too crowded for my taste. Ultimately you want to park near the LLBean side, but everyone in the world is trying to park over there.
Once there, the Carousel is fun for 10 minutes and it buys me time to get my Starbucks fix.

Malls are also not my thing, especially with kids in tow. Columbia Mall seems to ALWAYS be crowded year round. Parking can be difficult unless you get there right at opening.
All this being said, there are a few okay things about this mall...
Storytime and SingAlong with Miss Julie on Thursday mornings - she travels to several malls in the area and always wonderful entertainment, including some guest appearances (magician, puppet show). All children get a free ticket for a carousel ride from her and she sometimes hands out treats on special occasions (Shamrock necklaces, Chick-Fil-A sometimes shows with coupons or free sandwiches!).
The carousel is a big hit with the little ones.
Over the past year, maybe a little more, they've added an indoor play area. The entire area is soft and is great entertainment for little ones. It can get crowded though and annoying when big kids are allowed to run about amongst the wee ones.
