Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center

View Photo Gallery

Discover everything about the Agua Hedionda Lagoon and related water, wildlife, environmental issues, and trails. The Lagoon Discovery Center is a nature center dedicated to environmental education and outreach. We are located on the eastern end of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon estuary and wetland area in Carlsbad. The 3800 square foot building was completed in October 2004 and began hosting public programs and outreach activities in 2005. Owned and operated by the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation, the Discovery Center houses exhibits and displays which pertain to historical and environmental aspects of the Lagoon. In addition, the Discovery Center hosts numerous festivals, lectures, seminars and programs throughout the year. We hope you’ll join us!

We also have an innovative and cooperative school program between North County schools and the AHLF, designed to awaken in our children the need to appreciate and care for the natural environment. We provide hands-on classes, which stress responsible interaction with our natural surroundings and create awareness of the impact of day-to-day human activities. We offer four field trips within the program (four hours each trip) where instructors use hands on activities to bring the lesson to life. The field trip topics are on Lagoon History and Archaeology, Native American Culture, Migratory Birds, and Watersheds and Wetlands.
