Squire Boone Caverns

Squire Boone and brother Daniel discovered the cave in 1790. Today you can tour the caverns via concret/steel pathways with electrical lighting. The one hour guided cavern tour will take you a third of a mile into the cavern system. Your tourguide will show you formations that are only a few hundred years old up to one million years old. You will walk over and walk around two waterfalls in the caverns. Cavern tours are year around, please check for tour times. The Village is open during the summer months and has several activities. The village demonstrators keep old time practices alive. Hannah Boone's Candle shop - the ladies will show you how they make hand-dipped taper candles but you can also dip your own candle. The Gristmill has demonstrations on corn grinding using water power! The miller will show you how they use to get cornmeal and grits from the field corn the pioneers grew. The soap soap still makes lye soap, stop in for a demonstration. There is also a bakery with cookies and brownies made everyday. The snickerdoodles are fantastic. Don't forget the cream and butter fudge in the Candy Cabin! The Candy Cabin also has old fashioned candies like Rock Candy. You can also mine for gems and minerals in the Gem Mining Sluice and don't forget the Rock Shop. The Rock Shop has minerals and fossils from around the world. Do you want to get some fresh air? Take a hike on the hiking trail or have a picnic in the picnic areas. Have a day in the country!
