Situated in northern Utah where the Bear River flows into the Great Salt Lake, Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge is an oasis for migratory birds and wildlife alike. The Refuge protects over 78,000 acres of wetlands and grasslands for bird species such as Amercian Avocets, Wilson's Phalaropes, Tundra Swans, Bald Eagles and many more. The James V. Hansen Wildlife Education Center (WEC) was designed with environmental education to children and families at its core. With facilities and trails to foster exploration and education in all ages, the WEC is utilized by thousands of visiting school students and scout groups, pre-schoolers and parents, as well as youth and adult birding and photograpy groups. Visiting tour groups and families can take advantage of our staff and volunteer naturalists by joining a wetland walk or participating in our Jr. Ranger program. Visitors come from all over the world during migration to view the flocks of waterfowl and migratory shorebirds numbering in the hundreds of thousands. Stop by and see us soon!
